Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Orson S. Stew Myers Jr.; her sister, Dorothy Perry and brother, Jim Koster. Ethel graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School and went to work at L.A. The Naval Reserve in Grand Rapids provided the venue that led to her marriage to Orson Stewart Stew Myers Jr. on September 16, 1949, in Grand Rapids. They were married 64 years. Secretarial study at Davenport Business School led to positions at General Motors, the Veterans Administration, Godwin Public Schools and Kent Community Hospital until her retirement. While working at the Veterans Administration, Ethel met Madalen Wade, a World War II Marine who she remained best friends with until Madalen passed away. In her retirement years, she and Stew traveled the country visiting relatives and rekindling old friendships as well as making new as they attended many Elderhostels.
