Evelyn R. Kartes, age 74, of Hesperia died on Saturday, January 18, 2003 , at Heartland Health Care Center in Whitehall . She was born on July 17, 1928 , in Lincoln Township to Clarence and Mabel (Allers) Horton. She was a graduate of Butterworth School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse at Gerber Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1990. She is survived by her loving children, Debbie Frees of Hesperia, Melanie (Stanley) Jensen of Ravenna, Sue (John) Schondelmayer of White Cloud, Roxanne (Scott) Wilkinson of Hesperia, Linda Kartes of Comstock Park, Bruce Kartes of Hesperia, and Mark (Joni) Kartes of Norton Shores; 15 grandchildren; 24 great--grandchildren; former husband Byron Kartes; brother, Duane (Aileen) Horton of White Cloud; sisters, Elaine (Elton) Dickinson of Hesperia and Dolores (David) David; and 10 nieces and nephews. Services were held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont with Rev. Ken Bremer officiating. Interment is in Lincoln Township Cemetery .
