F. Arnold Woodring, age 98 of Fremont, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Arnold was born on May 11, 1917 in Muskegon to Claude Preston Woodring, Sr. and Lydia Christine (Madison) Woodring, the third of ten children. His maternal grandparents were named Mogensen, (Americanized to Madison), and emigrated from Denmark. As a child he attended Muskegon City Schools and Hesperia Rural Schools but skipped school frequently to work, helping support his family during The Great Depression. Arnold married Mildred May Wheeler December 24, 1938 in Fremont, Michigan and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2013. Arnold started working at the Gerber Products Company in June 1935 and retired in September 1978 as a supervisor in the Cereal Department after 43 years. His life-long hobby of carpentry led to him becoming a Licensed Residential Builder which soon became a business for him after retirement from Gerber Products and continued to build until his final retirement in his 80s after 30 plus years. Arnold was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. Frequently he could be found working and repairing around the church and the parsonage. His price was right!!. Arnold had been active in the Gerber Bowling League and the Boy Scouts of America in his younger years. Survivors include four sons: Gerald L. (Shirley) Woodring of Fremont, Richard A. (Theresa) Woodring of Fremont, Robert G. (Janet) Woodring of Davenport, Florida, and John W. (Bonnie) Woodring of Jackson, Michigan; nine grandchildren Deborah Truskoski, Douglas Woodring, Candice Todd, Christopher Woodring, Angela Chmura, Pamela McGarva, Nicholas Woodring, Brian Woodring and Lisa Ashburn; nineteen great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a granddaughter-in-law, Darlene (Maynard) Woodring of Hesperia; a brother, Orville Woodring and a sister Delores (Woodring) Chorny both of Muskegon; and his best friend and roommate at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility, Elliott (Squag, Freddy) DeWitt. Arnold was preceded in death by an infant sister, Audrey; brothers Kenneth, Claude, Jr., Donald, Gerald G., George; sister, Lenora (Woodring) Nixon; oldest grandchild, Scott Allen Woodring and infant great grandson, Nathaniel Arnold Woodring. VISITATION : Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 11am 1pm at the Fremont United Methodist Church 351 Butterfield Fremont with FUNERAL SERVICES following at 1pm at the church. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Area Community Foundation for the TrueNorth Childrens Christmas Fund.
