Florence Marie (Mastro) Dahlstrom, born February 4, 1915 Chicago, IL to Nicholas and Marie Mastro, died December 19, 2001 Phoenix, AZ. Florence grew up in Chicago Illinois where she attended St. Scholastica Girls School, Austin High School, and Northwestern University. She lived most of her life in Fremont, Michigan where she had a long career in Public Relations. Florence was one of the first women reporters in the 1950's for WKBZ in Muskegon and WBFC in Fremont, where she created, wrote, and broadcast her own program, "Fremont Reporting". Florence continued her career as a reporter for the Fremont Times Indicator and as Public Relations Director for the Fremont State Bank and then for the Gerber Memorial Hospital. She retired from Gerber Memorial Hospital after introducing several community service programs. Florence was co-founder with Genevieve Johnson of the Fremont Grey Ladies, she served on the board of the local council of the Girl Scouts of America, and was past president of the Public Relations Society of America, Muskegon Chapter. She spent many wonderful hours working with the Fremont Senior Center and the Newaygo County Area Agency on Aging. She was a founding member of the Newaygo County Arts Council. Florence was an active parishioner of the All Saints Catholic Church where she provided religious instruction for children, served on the Altar Guild, and was an active member of her Circle. She helped produce and starred in local and cable TV shows in Fremont, Laguna Hills, CA, and Naples, FL. She is fondly remembered for her special gifts as hostess to many friends and family. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, H.M. "Bud" Dahlstrom on March 22, 1984. Surviving Florence are her daughter, Mary Jo (David) Bultman of Grand Rapids, MI; her sons, Howard (Sue) Dahlstrom of Williamston, MI; and Eric (Margo Joan) Dahlstrom of Tempe, AZ. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jodie Marie Bultman of Chicago, IL; Nathan Mitchell Bultman of Seattle, WA; Marcus Notley John Dahlstrom of Tempe, AZ; and by her step-grandsons, Kerry Rouse; and Troy (Betty) Rouse and 4 great-grandsons Kevin R; Kevin K; Ronnie; and James all of Lansing, MI; her cousin, Ann Bisceglia of Chicago, IL; Lorraine Suerth of Fremont; Arlene Pugno of Fremont;and her very dear friends Marcy & Speed Rankin of St. Petersburg, FL; and Corallee Samuelson of Pentwater, MI. Her grandchildren will miss Florence's flowery language, special perfume, and Catholic school posture and penmanship A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:00 pm, January 5, 2002 from the All Saints Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the Dahlstrom family requests that you honor Mother with contributions to the Fremont Area Community Foundation P O Box B Fremont MI 49412-0176 for either the Gerber Memorial Health Services Endowment Fund or Newaygo County Council of the Arts Endowment Fund.
