Florine V.McReaken Maurer, age 88 of Battle Creek, formerly of White Cloud, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice in Battle Creek. Florine was born on July 11, 1922 in Schoolcraft to Marcus Jerome and Florence Viola (Beatie) Thornburg and graduated from Lawton High School. Florine married Willard McReaken in January 1944 in Lawton, Michigan and he preceded her in death on April 13, 1989. She later married Donald Maurer on July 18, 1991 and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1994. Florine moved to the Battle Creek area in 1995 from White Cloud and was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and White Cloud United Methodist Church. Florine had enjoyed Detroit Tiger Baseball, playing penny and nickel Bingo, playing cards, putting together puzzles and was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in White Cloud. SURVIVORS : her daughter, Marie McReaken of Wyoming, Michigan and my Andy Pekel of Hesperia; her 2nd daughters, Kim Ricker and Luanne Nelson; her sisters, Carol Hassler and Lucille Bolley of Battle Creek; several cousins including, Mary and Bing Morris of Battle Creek; several nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law Miriam Thornburg. Preceded in death by her son, Michael McReaken on January 28, 1984; brothers and sisters, James, Samuel and Marcus Thornburg and Anna Brown and infant sister, Esther. VISITATION : Friday, July 8, 2011 from 6-8 at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home.
