Floyd J. Shaft, Jay, age 54, of Fremont passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2002 , at home following a long illness. He was born on August 7, 1948 , in Grand Haven to Floyd Junior and Betty Jane (Teegardin) Shaft. He married Lillie Wilbur on December 20, 1996 , and was a forklift driver at Gerber Products Company. Floyd is survived by his loving wife Lillie of Fremont; children, Robert Schantalla of Muskegon, Shauna Hamilton of Hesperia, Jason Shaft of Fremont, Desha Deters of Fremont, Michael Backensto of Fremont, Jeffrey Backensto of Saginaw, Jason Backensto of Muskegon, and Casey Backensto of Holton; several step brothers and step sisters; parents, Floyd Junior (Jo Ann) Shaft of Kent City and Betty Jane Fisher of Grand Haven; 16 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, Dale (Sandra) Shaft of Grand Haven; sisters, Gail (Al) Wisniewski of Grand Haven, Cheryl (Patrick) Voss of Grand Haven, and Carol (Gary) Apple of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 , at 11 a.m. from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont with Rev. David Dickinson officiating. .Interment is in East Hesperia Cemetery .
