Floyd Wayne Schnell, age 83, of Fremont, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in White Cloud. Floyd was born on September 12, 1936 in Niagara Falls, New York, to Walter G. and Helen (Howatt) Schnell. Floyd graduated from Lewiston Porter Central School in Youngstown, New York, in 1953. In 1955 he graduated from Erie County Technical Institute in Buffalo, New York with an AAS degree in Chemistry, and later graduated from Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan in 1958, with a B.S. in Chemistry. After spending four years as a chemist with Strategic Material in Niagara Falls, he left to pursue a 37 year career as a pesticide residue analytical chemist with Gerber Products Company. While working at the Fremont plant, Floyd met Linda Acun͂a, a chemical engineer who also worked in the lab. Floyd and Linda married on September 19, 1970, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick. Floyd enjoyed playing his Technics organ and working in the garden.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children, Kevin Edward Schnell of Ann Arbor, Karen Ann (Gregory) Owel of Mattawan, and Karla Marie (Joseph) Callen of Paw Paw; grandchildren, Garrett Owel, Gavin Owel, and Noah Callen; brother, Lyle (Kathy) Schnell of New York; special cousin, David Parish; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; brother, Clyde Schnell; and sister, Myrna Schnell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Peter Schafer and interment in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery immediately following. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider the St. Michael Catholic Church or Newaygo County Compassion Home or Spectrum Health Hospice.
