Forest P. Wilson, age 75 of Fremont, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2000 at his home. He was born on July 4, 1925 in Traverse City to Forest and Addie (Page) Wilson. He married Sophia Troyanowski in 1944 and she preceded him in death in 1992. He married Shirley DeKuiper in 1993. Forest owned a wrecker service and service station from 1954 until 1974. He then drove large semi-trucks both local and coast to coast for Gilliland Transfer, Darling Freight, and Robinson Cartage until retirement in 1991. Forest was a member of the Aetna Calvary Church; Sgt. Of Newaygo County Sheriff Mounted Division; Navy Veteran of W.W. II; life member of V.F.W.; Captain of Civil Air Patrol; former member of Lions. He also owned and operated his own airplane for many years and taught scuba diving lessons in the adult education program for several years. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of Fremont; daughter, Sandra Marie (Lee) Schoon of Delaware, OH; son, Forest Ellis Wilson of Lansing; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; step-children, Marlene (Bill) Pavin of Rothbury; Randy (Chris) DeKuiper of Hesperia; Dan (Betty) DeKuiper of Coopersville; Lon (Jodi) DeKuiper of Fremont; 5 step-grandchildren; 3step-great grandchildren; brother, Leigh Wilson of Muskegon; sisters, Anna Chafin of Williamsville, MO; Patricia (Andy) Meekhof of North Muskegon; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Virginia Peets of Fremont; Geraldine (Don) Shanahan of Fremont; Jean Geeting of Fremont. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Leora Tanis in 1995 and sister-in-law, Elaine Smith in 1999. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 7, 2000 from the Aetna Calvary Church with Pastor Larry Vincent and Pastor Robert Wessell presiding with interment in the Clark Cemetery. Friends are asked to consider the Fremont Area Foundation Endowment Fund for Hospice of Newaygo County. Envelopes and arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont.
