Obituary

Foster Filmore Palmer, 76, of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015. Mr. Palmer was also a part-time resident of Beaver Island, MI. Beloved husband of Kristin (nee Wallestad) of Wheaton, loving father of Steven (Laurel) of Portage, MI, very proud grandfather of Teah Palmer, dear brother of Earl M. Palmer of Traverse City, MI and David L. Palmer (Janie) of Middletown OH. Foster is further survived by his step-son, Jonathan, nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, and former spouse Darlene Palmer. Foster was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Palmer Graf (nee Coutchie) and Earl C. Palmer. Foster was born in Fremont, MI on August 6, 1938. He graduated Fremont High School in 1956 and went on to graduate from Michigan State University in 1961. Foster worked for four years in the Merchant Marines during college summers as a crewman on the Milwaukee Clipper. He spent many years recruiting football players and students for his college alma mater following his graduation. Foster coached high school football in Joliet, IL for several years and served as a vice-president of the Joliet Diocese School Board. Mr. Palmer worked as a Contracting Officer for the Navy, managed contracting for five munitions plants during the Vietnam War for the Army, and concluded his career as a Division Director for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs at the National Acquisition Center, Hines IL. During his retirement Foster enjoyed appearing as an extra in many television series and movies. He made frequent appearances on "Early Edition", including the last scene of the series finale, regular appearances on "What About Joan", and others. He appeared in many movies, such as "My Best Friend's Wedding", "Return to Me", "Save The Last Dance", "The Lake House", "What Women Want" and "The Dark Knight". Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Fremont, MI following a funeral mass at All Saints Catholic Church on Saturday, January 9, 2015.
