Mantela, Frances I. Frances I. Mantela, age 87 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Bishop Hills Elder Care Community Home in Rockford. Frances was born on November 3, 1916 in St. Helen, Michigan to George F. and Mildred (Huntley) Slosser and married Einar N. Mantela in 1939 in Ohio. Einar preceded her in death on November 30, 1977. She had been a production worker at Gerber Products Company until her retirement and was a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church; a member of the River Valley Rebeka Lodge #86 and had been active in the Foster Grandparent Program in Newaygo County. Frances is survived by her children, Gerald (Virginia) Mantela of Fenton; Joyce (Hank) Kamphorst of Sparta; Ralph (Dolly) Mantela of White Lake; Ronald (Dotti) Mantela of Fenton; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; her sisters, Carrol Crittenden of Flint; Murel Cleeremans of Ypsilanti; Madonna Mihora of Davison; Phyllis (Jack) Gayer of Zephyr Hills, Florida; Joann (Jerry) Furlette of Luther; her brothers, Norman (Mary) Slosser of Luther; Carl (Nancy) Slosser of Millington. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Georgia Ryff and Edna Torsch. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 7, 2004 from the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with Rev. Jerry Jaquish presiding with interment in the Big Prairie Everett Township Cemetery. Friends may consider the White Cloud United Methodist Church or White Cloud Area District Library for memorial contributions in memory of Frances.
