Obituary

Frances E. (Crandall Nyman) VanDyke, 91, of Fremont, died April 24, 2009, at Transitional Health Services in Fremont.

She was born on July 20, 1917, one of seven children of Charles and Mary (Sheren) Crandall. She grew up in the Bitely area and attended local schools. Frances lived in the Fremont area for 60 years. While raising her children, she worked at Happy Hollow Restaurant and Gerber Baby Foods.

Frances married Dick VanDyke on December 27, 1969, and worked with Dick in his business, VanDyke Engine Rebuilding, until their retirement. Dick preceded Frances in death, as did her sisters, Augusta David and Marjorie Cousineau, and brothers Lorance, Earl, Willis, and Henry Crandall.

Frances is survived by her children from her marriage to Andrew Nyman: Janice Nyman of Ann Arbor, Susan Slavin of Ann Arbor, Holly (Kim) Robinson of Hesperia, Jerry Nyman of Belleville, Terry (Marty) Nyman of Walla Walla, WA., Tom (Mary) Nyman of Twin Lake, Brian (Marge) Nyman of Seattle, WA., and Tim (Lynne) Nyman of Bristol, RI., as well as 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 28th from 12 2 PM at the Fremont Christian Church, corner of North Division and Elm. The funeral services were at 2pm (immediately following the visitation) at the church with Reverend David A. Dickinson officiating. A short graveside service was held at Clark Cemetery following lunch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to go to the Transitional Health Service Resident Activity Fund.
