Frank H. Smith, age 89 of Holton, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at his home following a short illness. He was born on April 5, 1912 in Woodville, Michigan to William Alfred and Emma (Cairns) Smith and married Edith Horton on March 31, 1939 in White Cloud. He has been a lifelong resident of the area where he was a member of the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church. Frank retired from Gerber Products in 1974 after more than 22 years as a cook and continued his love of baking molasses and date filled cookies at his home for the past 27 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith of Holton; his sons, James (Judith) Smith of Twin Lake; Richard (Janice) Smith of Twin Lake; William (Kaye) Smith of Holton; Jack (Penny) Smith of Montague; Larry (Theresa) Smith of Fremont; Steve (Pam) Smith of Holton; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn May of Kalamazoo; Margaret (Warren) White of Howard City; brother, Carl (Barbara) Smith of Newaygo; brother-in-law, Herb May of Fremont. He was preceded in death by sisters, Clara Belle & Luella and brothers, Ray & Bill. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 3, 2001 from the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Krentz presiding with interment in the Clark Cemetery near Fremont. Friend may consider the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund for memorial contributions.
