Obituary

Born on Mothers Day, 1936, Fred C. Borkowski passed away at home on October 28, 2011, following a short battle with cancer. Fred was employed by the Newaygo County Road Commission for 42 years prior to his retirement ten years ago. Dedicated to his job, he was known to work 16 hour days, 16 days in a row often missing Christmas with his children keeping roads plowed and sanded so people could get to work, church and family gatherings safely. He married Ferol Dougan on November 28, 1964. They have 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters, who are his pride and joy. Meredythe (Daniel) Doering and Katlynne and Liesha (Brian) Crawford and Bridgit. In addition to spending time with his treasured granddaughters, Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and back in the day playing horseshoes. He even has a few trophies to show for his bowling and horseshoe abilities. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel from 4-8pm with a Scripture Service at 7:45 at the funeral home. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 1pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud where Fred was baptized, confirmed, married and was a faithful lifelong member. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation to Hospice of Michigan, the Peter Wege Hope Lodge or charity of the donors choice. In addition to his immediate family, Fred is survived by his sisters, Virginia (Al) Tennant of Holland; Bernice (Maihie) McFergy of Santa Barbara, California; Carol (Harvey) Cruzan of South Carolina; Margaret Borkowski of White Cloud; Ed Borkowski of Muskegon; Walter Borkowski of White Cloud; brothers-in-law, Norman Clary of White Cloud; James Dougan of Comstock Park; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Harriet (Dudek) Borkowski; sisters, Irene Clary, Doris Borkowski; brothers, John Borkowski Jr.; Mathew Borkowski; sisters-in-law, Emily Borkowski and Grace Borkowski.
