Banfill, Gary L. Gary L. Banfill, age 72 of Newaygo, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006 at his home. Gary was born on October 12, 1933 in Reed City to James and Naomi (Farley) Banfill and has been a resident of the Newaygo area for the past 20 years when he moved from Eastmanville and Grand Rapids. Gary had been a maintenance worker at Heckman Furniture in Grand Rapids until his retirement at age 65. Gary was active in the senior companions program, was a member of AARP, enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and especially enjoyed checkers. Gary also served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his children, Sally Smith of Wyoming, Michigan; Luann (Patrick) Knappen of Belmont; Gary Banfill of Rockford; Denise Read of Rockford; Christine Banfill of Grand Rapids; Lora Banfill of Wyoming, Michigan; Michael Banfill of Grand Rapids; Julie (Ed) Therrault of Wyoming, Michigan; Beth Banfill of Grand Rapids; Brian (Robbie) Banfill of Rockford; Amy (Tony) Klocko of Comstock Park; Lea (Steve) ONeal of Caledonia; 34 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; his brother, James (Mary) Banfill of Grandville; Gene Banfill of Cedar Springs; Mike Banfill of Hesperia. Memorial services were held in Grand Rapids following cremation. Friends may consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Senior Companions Program for contributions in memory of Gary.
