Gene Koch Jr., age 60 of White Cloud, passed away following a very short illness on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at his home. Gene was born on July 27, 1959 in Fremont to Douglas E. and Joyce Koch Sr. and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Gene met his wife, Julie Kelly and they have been together since 1986. Gene had most recently been a self-employed wood carpenter but had worked for Sign's By Harry, Maple Island Log Homes and other companies in West Michigan. Gene was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and playing pool and poker with his friends, operated a large greenhouse on his property – growing vegetables and flowers for his entire family and his neighborhood friends. Gene was also an avid outdoorsman and loved working with wood - carving, building, and cutting firewood.
Gene is survived by his wife, Julie of White Cloud; his children, Bruce Manlick of Newaygo; Kristy Thomas of White Cloud; Kenny Thomas of White Cloud; his grandchildren, Trevor Koch; Savannah Wilson; KJ Thomas; Alyssa Ostrander; his mother, Joyce Koch; his brothers and sister, Todd (Chris) Koch of White Cloud; Bart (Rosemary) Koch of White Cloud; Julie (Enrique Rodriquez) Hile of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Eugene Koch Sr.; his brother, Jack Koch; his daughter-in-law, Bobbie Maples.
Following Gene's wishes, cremation will take place and a private gathering to celebrate Gene's life will be held later in the summer of 2020. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Koch family in memory of Gene.
