Obituary

George W. LaPonsie, age 93 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at his home following a short illness. George was born on March 12, 1911 in Brimley, Michigan and later married Gladys M. Bray on May 2, 1935 in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan. He has been a resident of the White Cloud area since 1974 when he moved to the White Cloud area from Grand Rapids. He had been a hi-lo repair technician at General Motors Company for approximately 20 years until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the White Cloud Eagles, was a life member of the N.R.A.; was an avid sportsman, a member of the Moose Lodge of Munising. He is survived by his children Barbara (Harold) Magoon of Newaygo; Jeanne (Tom) Corbett of White Cloud; George (Joan) LaPonsie of Jackson, California; Oscar (Cookie) LaPonsie of White Cloud; Harold (Patricia) LaPonsie of Christmas, Michigan; 18 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; his brother, Jimmy LaPonsie of Brimley, Michigan; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Betty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys M. on October 31, 1976; a granddaughter, Debra Raphael, a great grandson, Kenneth Raphael and several brothers and sisters. Funeral memorial services were held on Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with Funeral Celebrant Curt A. Crandell presiding with interment in the Big Prairie Everett Township Cemetery. Friends are asked to consider Hospice of Michigan Newaygo County for memorial contributions.
