Tinney, George LaMonte George LeMonte Tinney was born in Fremont, February 27, 1914, to Erwin and Nellie (Barks) Tinney and lived in Fremont his entire life. He died January 11, 2005. His funeral will be January 15, 11:00 AM, at The First Congregational Church. Monty graduated from Fremont High School in 1932 and worked in Lansing and then at the Fremont Post Office until 1941 when he joined the United States Army and served in France, England, Germany, and Ireland during World War II. From 1945-1965, he was in business with his brother and father in the Erwin Tinney Real Estate Company, founded by his father in 1913. In 1965, he went to work as a mortgage officer in the Old State Bank. He retired in 1975. Monty served the community as a member of the Fremont City Commission, Fremont Planning Commission, the Fremont Industrial Development Corporation and as a Director of the Old State Bank. He was a member of the Congregational Church, Ramshorn Country Club, and the Fremont Fish and Game Club. He married Elaine Hansen on February 8, 1941. Together they had four children: Jane (William) Whittington, Patrick (died in 1959), James (Hope) Tinney and Mary Tinney (Jeremy Kane). Monty had seven grandchildren: Elisabeth (Scott) Loos, Anne (Sam) VandenBerg, Riley, Joseph and Kathryn Tinney, and Emma and Jack Kane. He also had three great-grandsons: Benjamin and Thomas Loos and Henry VandenBerg. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Patrick, and his siblings: Clayton Tinney, Vivian (Leo) Anderson, Marian (Si) Miller and Marie (Donavan) Wheeler. Monty loved the outdoors and was never happier than when he was fishing on the Muskegon River, hunting for morels in his secret spots, or camping on Drummond Island especially in company with his dear friends Bob VandenBelt and Johnny Carrouthers. Monty was devoted to his wife and family and proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, touting their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. Services were held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 11:00 AM from The First Congregation Church in Fremont, Michigan.
