Obituary

Georgia Mae Paxton 89, of Fremont, has completed her life on earth and entered eternal life to be with her Lord, as her faith has assured her. She was born Georgia Mae Gregerson in Pontiac, Michigan on February 22, 1930 to Gladys Loretta (nee' Ferguson) and Edwin Gregerson, and died on January 26, 2020 in Fremont, Michigan. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Robert E. Paxton, MD, her parents and four siblings. Mrs. Paxton is survived by her children, Kathleen (Colin) Thomas, Guy Robert Hunt, Curtis Lee Hunt, MD and step-children Bill (Judy) Paxton, Cheryl Lynn (Dan) Brink, Laurel Ann Paxton, Pamela Sue (Tim) Steenstra, Kimberley Dawn (Doug) Elzinga and Debra Jane (Randy) Buursma. Of great joy to her during her life were numerous loving grandchildren, their spouses, and great grandchildren. Also surviving her are many nephews and nieces, and her very special friend Deanna Davidson, MD. Georgia graduated from the Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She had a strong interest in public health, working as a nurse with the Newaygo County Health Department, and with Hospice of Newaygo County (now Hospice of Michigan). Georgia was very involved in church activities as a member of First Congregational Church of Fremont, Michigan. She served in various positions within the church, such as the Board of Deacons, Chairperson of the Memorial Garden Committee, the Congo Crafters and the Home Tour. Along with her late husband, Georgia was involved in the local civic theater, serving behind the scenes in various roles such as stage manager and set director She was a supporter of the Dogwood Performing Arts Center, hosting many fundraisers and serving as an usher for many years. SERVICES : Services will be scheduled later. Service information will be updated as soon as they become available. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be made to the Circle of Life Memorial Garden at the First Congregational Church of Fremont, or the Newaygo County Compassion Home.
