Gerald D. Brochu, age 77 of Newaygo, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004. Gerald was born on December 24, 1926 in Grand Rapids to Arthur and Verna (Cook) Brochu and later married Laverle DeBock on February 13, 1947 in Grand Rapids. He had worked as a tool and die maker at Rapistan until his retirement in 1988. Gerald moved to the Newaygo area 16 years ago and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and staying busy at his home tinkering. He was a member of the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laverle Jean Brochu of Newaygo; his sons, Gerald (Gwen) Brochu of Grand Haven; Greg Brochu and special friend, Dennis of Washington, DC; Jeffrey Brochu of Newaygo; grand daughters, Chantelle (Mike) Robbe and Heather (Sean) Davies; 6 great grandchildren; his sister, Florence (Orrie) Sjaarda of Florida. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur and sister, Genevieve. Funeral Memorial Mass Services were held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo.
