Gerald M. Doody, age 85 of Fremont, formerly of Bitely and Detroit, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont. Gerald was born on September 29, 1935 in Detroit to Hugh and Sophie (Kania) Doody and later met and married Polly Melton on July 16, 1960 in Detroit. Gerald had worked at Detroit Diesel for 30 years as a diesel mechanic until his retirement in 1993. Gerald and Polly moved to the Bitely area in 1993 and then to Fremont in 2013. Gerald enjoyed fishing, hunting, gaming and reading. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. Gerald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Polly of Fremont; his children, Lori Doody of Norton Shores, Michigan; Gary (Faith) Doody of Lake Orion, Michigan; Caroline (David) Carbery of Macomb Township, Michigan; Michael (Joan) Doody of Troy, Michigan; his grandchildren, Glen Doody, Alan Doody, Sean Doody, Kevin Doody, Aaron Doody, Alex (Serena) Carbery, Jennifer Carbery; his brother, Richard (Patricia) Doody of Grayling; his sister, Patricia Ouellette of Florida. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Sophie Doody; his sister, Celia Sokolowski and brother, Hugh Doody. FUNERAL SERVICES : Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W. 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 with a VISITATION from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the services. MILITARY HONORS will be given on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. NOTE : during the visitation, a limited number of people will be permitted into the funeral home and friends will need to rotate in and out of the funeral home during the visitation with face coverings being required.
