Bates, Geraldine H. Geraldine H. Bates, age 67 of White Cloud, formerly of Ypsilanti, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007 at her home following a short illness. Geraldine was born on March 11, 1940 in South Carolina to Otis Darnell and Irene (McCoy) Hammond. She married Charles Edward Bates and he preceded her in death in 1978. She later married Leonard Burdziak in 1983 in Ypsilanti and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2005. Geraldine had been a foreman at General Motors Company for several years until her retirement when she moved to the White Cloud area. She enjoyed reading, collecting antique jewelry, working with crafts and shopping on QVC. Geraldine is survived by her children, Edward Bates of White Cloud; Joy Bates (Greg Gilkey) of Kent City; Guy (Janet) Burdziak of Lathan, Arizona; her granddaughter, Taylor Gilkey of Kent City; grandsons, Daniel and Ryan Burdziak; great grandchild, Christian; her brother, Joe Hammond of Taylor, South Carolina; her sisters, Virgel Long of Taylor, South Carolina; Laurie DeVine of Atlanta, Georgia; niece, Christy Long and great neice, Jessica Rider; nephews, Randy Long and Kevin DeVine. Funeral memorial graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at the Big Prairie Everett Township Cemetery in White Cloud.
