Gilbert Tanis Jr., age 85, of Fremont passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Transitional Health Services in Fremont. He was born on July 27, 1933, and married Marjorie Bergklint on August 28, 1953, in Hesperia. Gil had worked for Art DeKuiper hauling milk then went to work driving semi for Gilliland Transfer which changed to Grabill Trucking. His career spanned over 42 years in trucking. Gil loved fishing, deer hunting, camping, riding the "Mule," going on Sunday afternoon rides with Ike, and going to Tamarac to work out and visit with friends. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1555 in Fremont and was a member of the Eagles and V.F.W. He loved spending time with his sisters and brother, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gilbert is survived by his children, Denise Burkle of Fremont, Tammy (Dan) Lockwood of Fremont, and Richard (Tracy) Tanis of Fremont; grandchildren Kerri (Jeremy) Rogers, Craig (Heather) Burkle, Kurt (Brenda) Lockwood, Kylene (Matt) Moschke, Alyssa (Ryan Priest) Tanis, and Brent Tanis; great-grandchildren Kaylee Rogers, Lexie Rogers, MaKya Burkle, Thomas Lockwood, Lucas Lockwood, Emma Jo Moschke, and Hunter Moschke; sisters and brother Evelyn Harmon of Fremont, Gladys Lauritzen of Fremont, Charlotte Andrews of Morley Stanwood, and Jerry Tanis of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 1995; longtime special traveling partner Ruth Hopkins; brothers, Lester Tanis and Alvin Tanis; and sisters, Pauline Tanis and Donna Wilson. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening October 25, 2018, from 5 – 8 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel 7193 W. 48th Street Fremont MI 49412. Funeral services will be on Friday at 1 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel with Pastor Bryan Tanis officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
