Gladys Maxine Colby, age 89 of White Cloud, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Metron of Big Rapids Nursing Center. Maxine was born on December 12, 1926 in Conklin, Michigan to James Elmer and Nellie Irene (Batson) Colson. Gladys met and later married Lyle A. Colby in 1977 in Grand Rapids and Lyle preceded her in death on March 14, 1999. Maxine had been a Registered Surgical Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids for 40 years until her retirement when she moved to the White Cloud area. Gladys was a member of the Nurses Alumni Group of St. Mary's Hospital and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud. Maxine is survived by her sister-in-law, Arlene Colson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Wilda Stark and Lois Colson; her brothers, George Colson and John Colson. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in White Cloud.
