Grace A. Slater, age 90 of Holton, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011, at her home. Grace was born on November 6, 1920, in Holton to Albert and Anna Pearl (Fidler) Saxton and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Grace met and later married Joseph F. Slater on November 11, 1939, in Brunswick. Grace and Joe had been dairy farmers in Holton all their lives and were lifelong members of the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brunswick. Grace was a past president of St. Marys Alter Society. She was an accomplished organist, taught piano, and enjoyed playing the organ at home as well as at church, school, and other functions. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and family. Grace is survived by her children, Joseph (Midge) Slater of Holton, Janice (Tom) Uganski of Newaygo, James (Bonnie) Slater of Holton, and Joan (Richard) Kokx of Fremont; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Col. D.W. (Patricia) Saxton of Maryland and Harold (Martha) Saxton of Waterford, MI.; sister in law Arlene Saxton of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Slater on August 26, 2009 and brother, Wayne Saxton. Mass of Resurrection Services will be held at 11 AM, on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brunswick with Rev. Father Roc Majalla presiding. Interment will be in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2- 4 and 6 8 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home with a Scripture service starting at 7:30 PM. Friends may consider the St. Michaels Catholic Church for the Grace A. Slater Memorial Fund for a more lasting memorial.
