Obituary

Harley W. Palmiter, age 86 of Newaygo, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Harley was born on August 3, 1918 in Rochester, Michigan to Leo and Mabel (VanSchoick) Palmiter and married Erma Much on April 6, 1940 in New Boston, Michigan. He had been a heavy equipment operator at the Ford Motor Company and Enot Foundry until his retirement on August 19, 1981. Harley and Erma moved to Newaygo 1990 from Pinckney and became a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud where he had been active in the church and had served as an elder. Harley enjoyed sailing and flying airplanes and continued both of these activities until his just recently. Harley also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Erma of Newaygo; his children, Patricia (James) Wiseley of Newaygo; Terry (Debbie) Palmiter of Carthage, North Carolina; Gary Palmiter of Newaygo; Roger Palmiter of Newaygo; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; his nephew, David Young of Belleville, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Myrtie Young. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 from the Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud with Rev. Richard Hoogerhyde presiding with interment in the Newaygo Cemetery. Friends may consider the Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund for memorial contributions in memory of Harley.
