Harold S. Myers, age 93 of Newaygo, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home. Harold was born on January 22, 1927 in Bear Lake Township, Manistee County, Michigan to Silvester and Hattie (Harthun) Myers. Harold joined the United States Navy where he served until his honorable discharge during World War II. He met and later married Joan Nugent on October 17, 1953 in Bear Lake Township and they moved to the Muskegon area and later to Newaygo in 1961. Harold had been a Service Representative for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company for the Newaygo and Grant area for 34 years until his retirement in 1987. He and "Joey" then built a winter home in Gulf Shores, AL, that they enjoyed sharing with family and visiting friends. They then built another home in Newaygo with an inspiring view overlooking the Muskegon River. Harold was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud where he had served as Elder; enjoyed golfing, reading, playing cribbage and card games and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan of Newaygo; his children, Debra (George) Samples of Wrens, Georgia; Tamra (Dale) Anderson of Bear Lake, Michigan; Glen (Amy) Myers of Grand Rapids; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Meachum of Bear Lake; his brother, Harlan (Karen) Myers of Grand Rapids, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Reynold, William, and Robert Myers and by his sister, Shirley Myers. GRAVESIDE SERVICES will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1pm at the Bear Lake Township Cemetery 7999 Maidens Road Bear Lake, Michigan 49614.
