Harriet E. Amundson, age 87 of Newaygo, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Altercare Nursing Center in Big Rapids. Harriet was born on February 25, 1925 in Chicago to John and Fannie (Slominski) Shakon and later married Milo Amundson Sr. on October 24, 1959 in Chicago. Milo Sr. preceded her in death on December 14, 1985. Harriet had worked for the Mars Candy Company and Motorola in Chicago prior to moving the Newaygo area in 1965 and then worked at National Fruit in Kent City until her retirement. Harriet had been an avid gardener, enjoyed watching the birds, color tours, yard saleing and going out to eating out at restruants. Harriet recently became a great grandmother and truly enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother. Harriet is survived by her sons, Milo (Terri) Amundson of Newaygo; John Amundson of White Cloud; her grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, Nicole, Alec and Ashley; her great grand daughter, Grace Lynn; her sisters and brother, John Shakon Jr. of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; Dorothy Ross of California; Irene Clark of Bensonville, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Mildred Howser of Chicago. Harriet was preceded in death by her son, Mark Amundson on May 19, 200; her sisters, Genevieve and Sofie. VISITATION : Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 10-12pm at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 12pm at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. INTERMENT : St. Bartholomew Catholic Cemetery in Newaygo.
