IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harry Thomas
Caruso
June 11, 1947 – May 20, 2025
Harry Thomas Caruso, known by many as Tom, 77, of Fremont, MI, passed away peacefully on 5/20/2025. He was born on 6/11/1947 in Oak Park, IL to Marilyn L. Beck and Harry E. Caruso. Harry was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Laura "Maggie" Caruso nee McAndrews, and a loving father to Peter (Amy) Caruso, Chris (Kristina) Caruso, Scott (Toni) Caruso, and a beloved stepfather to Shannon (Joey) Malik Jarmusz and Adam (Justine) Malik. Harry was a loving grandfather to Fiona R. Moore-Follett, Gianna V. Caruso, Gabriella D. Caruso, Penelope J. Caruso, Elliott J. Jarmusz, and Ruby N. Malik.
Harry had many passions in life such as his family, fishing, the Cubs, music, and eating fresh seafood. Harry had many dear friends, aka, The Eat Me Lure Company boys, and lifelong pals Bill F. and Bob. F. He enjoyed life with his English Springer Spaniels throughout the years: Dakota, Cassie, Sammy, and Lillie. Above all of these, Harry adored his wife Maggie and centered her in his life on beautiful Peck Lake.
As a boy, he grew up in Berkley, IL around an extended family who loved and cherished him. It's also where his adventurous spirit originated; hopping onto train cars and riding them into Chicago to see the Cubs was a pastime of Harry's.
Harry enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966 and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He served on a B-58 bomber crew at Grissom AFB, Peru, IN. After his service, Harry earned a Master's Degree in teaching from NIU and began his professional career as an elementary school teacher.
Over the years, Harry enjoyed many interesting careers, including sales, corrections officer for the Florida Dept. Of Corrections, and ultimately retired as a teacher for the Michigan Dept. of Corrections. Harry was a gentle soul who was ceaselessly patient and kind. He always endeavored to be helpful and do his best while taking every opportunity to look for the best in others. He had a sly wit and when he found something particularly funny, his laugh would light up the room.
Harry will be deeply missed and lovingly celebrated by those he cared about. He didn't want an elaborate memorial service and his family is upholding his longtime wish to donate his body to science. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family kindly requests that you share some of your best memories with Harry in the guest book below to help keep his spirit alive in each of us.
As Harry would always say to Maggie and loved ones: "Have fun. Be careful."
