Harry "Captain Mack" Richard McGahan, age 87 of Brohman, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital following a short illness. Mack was born on January 29, 1934 in Walkerville, Michigan and graduated from Hart High School. Harry joined the United States Marine Corps where he served in the Korean War and received 2 Purple Hearts for injuries received during combat. Harry was a United States Coast Guard Certified Master Captain and served as Captain of many ships sailing in the Great Lakes, Alaska, Washington and around the world and served as a Captain of various commercial fishing boats as well as charter fishing boats. On April 14, 2013, Mack married Mary Ann Knowles and she preceded him in death on June 6, 2019. Mack has been a resident of the Brohman area since the early 1980's and enjoyed fishing, hunting and hosting music gatherings at his home where he always enjoyed cooking for everyone. Mack was a member of the Amvets Post #1988 in Baldwin
Mack is survived by his sister, Verna Flanery of Tacoma, Washington; his nieces, Irma Fairchild of Tacoma, Washington; Shara Stelling (Norm Anderson) of Olympia, Washington; great niece, Kim Allen of Tacoma, Washington; great nephew, Doug Stelling of Oakville, Washington. Mack was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Knowles McGahan and by his sister, Millie Jackson.
Following Mack's wishes, a private gathering will be held at a later date following cremation with his remains being scattered in the sea off the coast of Washington State.
