Hazel M. Meyers, age 87 of Fremont, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at her home. Hazel was born on April 22, 1930 in Muskegon to Frank Paul and Dorothy Carmen (Erickson) Bitson and moved to Fremont in her teen years. Hazel graduated from Fremont High School in 1948 and later married Earl Meyers on April 1, 1950 in Fremont. Hazel had been the Cedar Street School Librarian for 25 years until her retirement and was a member of the First Reformed Church in Fremont. Hazel loved family vacations, traveling and camping throughout the United States. Hazel had been an archery mom to her children, traveling to archery tournaments on the weekends for many years and following their activities. Hazel had been a Girl Scout leader in her younger years and truly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Hazel and Earl also enjoyed spending their winters in San Benito, Texas for 23 years. Hazel is survived by her husband of 67 years, Earl of Fremont; her children, Sue (Art) Romska of Clio, Michigan; Cathy (Morris) Rottman of Fremont; Glenn Meyers of Fremont; her grandchildren, Amanda (Jimmy) Fox; Krista (Ryan) Montgomery; Philip (Jenny) Baston; Desi Rottman; 7 great grandchildren; her son-in-law, Rick Wray; her brother, Joseph (Bonnie) Bitson of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Wray on November 24, 2012; by 2 brothers who were serving in the armed forced during World War II; a brother, Paul Bitson and by her sister, Linda Louise Bitson. VISITATION : Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel and Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 10-11am at the First Reformed Church in Fremont.
