Henry Robert "Bob" Carbine passed away on December 16, 2020, near Holland, MI, from complications of COVID-19, his beloved wife and daughter were by his side. Bob was born in Muskegon, Michigan, to Henry B. and Helen (Andrews) Carbine on February 11, 1931. After attending Brunswick Grade School and graduating from Fremont High School in 1949, he worked on their family farm until he entered into the service of the United States Army in 1954. Bob served as a medic in France, prior to receiving an honorable military discharge in 1956. Bob was a Life Member of the Fremont VFW Laurel's Post #6898. Upon his return, Bob worked in a variety of jobs in the Fremont area. In 1963, Bob met his future wife, Sally (Dickinson) at a square dance. They were married on October 1, 1966. In 1967, Bob began working for the City of Fremont, and after 27 years of service, Bob retired as Superintendent of Waste Water in 1994. For many years following his retirement, he and Sally enjoyed their love of traveling, which included visiting all 50 states, going on Caribbean cruises, and taking international tours. Some of his favorite destinations were the Panama Canal, Belize, Cuba, and England. The couple lived in Fremont, MI, until 2009 when they moved to Holland, MI. Bob enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, woodworking, dancing, and wintering in Florida and Alabama.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by the family he dearly loved, including his wife and daughter, Amy Carbine, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, his brother in-law and sister in-law, John and Susan (Dickinson) Donahue, and two nieces, Dr. Tara Donahue and Tanya Donahue of Traverse City, Michigan. Bob lived life to the fullest, enjoyed socializing with everyone, was loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE honoring Bob will take place on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11am at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 with MILITARY HONORS at 11am and VISITATION from 10-11am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or Peace Ranch Equine Assisted Therapy 2570 Hoosier Valley Road Traverse City, MI 49685.
