Hilda M. Cooper, age 84 of Newaygo, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Altercare Nursing Center in Big Rapids following a lingering illness. Hilda was born on June 7, 1927 in Remus, Michigan to Carl and Alice (Decker) Weeks and has been a lifelong resident of the Newaygo area. Hilda married Clifford Cooper and he preceded her in death. Hilda had been active in the Foster Grandparent Program at the Newaygo Public Schools for several years until her retirement. Hilda enjoyed cooking and baking, listening to music, sewing, and the Michigan outdoors. In her younger years, Hilda had enjoyed camping and fishing and had attended the Luther Chapel near Morley. Hilda is survived by her children, Judith (Nick) Green of Stanwood; Michael (Pamela) Sanford of Newaygo; James (Sara) Cooper of Newaygo; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Hilda was preceded in death by her son, Richard Sanford on August 5, 2009 and by her sister, Delores Jenkins. Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Luther Chapel near Morley, Michigan with interment in the Big Prairie Township Cemetery. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Foster Grandparents Program from memorial contributions in memory of Hilda.
