Irene
Brandt
September 6, 1908 – January 19, 2004
Brandt, Irene Irene Brandt, age 95, formerly of White Cloud, passed away, Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Tender Care West in Grand Ledge after a courageous battle of many difficult years with advanced dementia and near-blindness. Irene was born in Allegan on September 6, 1908 and raised on a farm in rural Allegan County, one of five daughters and one son born to the late Claude and Iva Wilcox. Irene moved to White Cloud following her marriage to Bill Brandt in 1929. In addition to raising two sons and supporting Bill in his work as the town barber, Irene worked for the Michigan Department of Social Services as a social worker for 25 years. She was a devoted wife and cared for Bill during a five-year battle with emphysema until his passing in 1989. Irene is survived by her two sons and their wives, Kenneth & Sharon of Marietta, Georgia and Jim & Diane of Grand Ledge, Michigan , seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, her sister Gertrude Lent of Allegan, her sister-in-law Ingeborg Brandt of White Cloud, numerous nephews and nieces. Irene was preceded in death by her first-born grandson Kevin, her sisters Thelma, Gladys and Naureen and brother, Guy. Ever gracious, Irene was always kind to those around her, always appreciative of others kindnesses, and quick to share her wit and humor with all. In her beloved White Cloud, she always introduced herself as Irene the Village Queen, and was able to remain in her own home longer because of the care and concern of her many friends in town. Special thanks to the many caregivers at Tender Care West for their on-going support and compassion during Irenes final year. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 24, 2004 from the White Cloud United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Bowman of the White Cloud United Methodist Church presiding with interment in the White Cloud Cemetery. Friends may consider the White Cloud United Methodist Church Building Fund for memorial contributions. Envelopes and arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. www.crandellfh.com
