Campbell, J. Scott J. Scott Campbell, age 48 of Walkerville, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at his home on Campbell Lake, Walkerville, Michigan. Scott was born on May 12, 1959 to Joel H. and Nancy (Hough) Campbell in Adrian, Michigan. Scott graduated from Bedford High School and later from Ferris State University. Scott started work at Channel 3 in Kalamazoo and later moved to Channel 8 in Grand Rapids where he was the general sales manager for 16 years until his retirement. Scott was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping and enjoying life to the fullest and the Michigan Outdoors. Scott is survived by his sons, Benjamin Joel Campbell, sworn into the United States Air Force and attending basic training in December; Nicholas Clark Campbell of Mt. Pleasant attending Mid Michigan Community College; his parents, Joel and Nancy Campbell of Campbell Lake, Walkerville, Michigan; his brothers, R. Kent Campbell of Rockford; J. Matthew (Dawn) Campbell of Hamilton; several uncles, nieces and nephews. Services of tribute and celebration were held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 from the Holton American Legion, Post #397. Scott Campbell on-line I will never forget the first time I met Scott Campbell. It was in May of 1993 and I made a sales call to WOOD TV8 to pitch them cable advertising for the upcoming July ratings book. I called on Scott Campbell and I remember pitching him in his office and how much he intimated me. He was this big, gruff, football player type of a guy, but with the heart of a lion. I sold him on my pitch to the point where he offered me an Account Executive job with the station. I was not even looking for a job at the time, but the thought of working for him and the #1 television broadcasting station in the market was enough for me to accept. In looking back on my broadcasting career, Scott was a great mentor to me. I still use some of his sales tactics to this day. Shutting the door at 8:30am sharp on sales meeting mornings, approaching an AE and asking them, Where are we going today He was tough, took no crap, and demanded accountability and respect. He was a great family man who loved his boys. He loved the outdoors and always told me that his dream when he retired was to buy a boat and conduct Charter fishing trips. I looked forward to those days when we would have a round of golf together, even more when Scotts father Joel would join us. I will deeply miss Scott and the many good times we had together. Laemers Posted 11/5/07 Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, I received a call today from Roland Grit, a business acquaintance, who's family lives across the lake from you telling me that you had lost Scott. I am so sorry. Having lost my mother earlier this year, I truly understand what it is like to lose someone you love. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. I will always remember Scott as the hunter, fisherman and all around sportsman. Some of my fondest young adult memories are those on Campbell Lake with all of you. I know its been a lot of years, but I will always treasure the long drives up north, snow mobile rides at night, salmon fishing, tubing down the white river, waking up pre-dawn to sit with M&Ms in the woods waiting for deer, working on some part of the cabin, stacking wood until your arms hurt, water skiing, and many other Campbell lake activities I haven't enjoyed since.
