J. DeWitt Shearer Jr., age 85 of White Cloud, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. DeWitt was born on July 12, 1924 in Grand Rapids to J. DeWitt and Jennie (Mieras) Shearer Sr. and married Violet Welch on June 1, 1946 in Grand Rapids. DeWitt had been a milk delivery man for 40 years in Grand Rapids for Quality Creamery and also had managed the Shell Gas Station in White Cloud until his retirement. DeWitt had served in the United States Navy during World War II. DeWitt is survived by his wife of 64 years Vi, of White Cloud; children, Russell (Sherri) Shearer of Grand Rapids, Thomas (Terry) Shearer of Owosso, Alan (Judy) Shearer of White Cloud, Carolyn (Larry) Hansen of Grand Rapids, and Jennie Hawthorne of White Cloud; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Jeanne Croskey of Grand Rapids, Joyce Visser of Grand Rapids, Shirley Wysma of Detroit, and Dawn Plotts of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John J., Robert, and Glenn Shearer; grandchildren, Rebecca Shearer, Nicholas Shearer, Katie Hawthorne, and Marcy Chase. VISITATION : Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 6-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 11am at the funeral home.
