Jack W. Burrell, age 91 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Jack was born on September 18, 1930 in Fremont to Charlie and Arlie (Noble) Burrell and graduated from Hesperia High School in 1949. Jack joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War until his discharge as Staff Sergeant. After his return from the war in the 1950's, Jack operated a gas distributions service in the area and in 1966 founded, owned and operated Burrell Service in Hesperia until his retirement in 2008. Jack married Evelyn Marie (Grossman) Clark on January 22, 1972 in Hesperia and Evelyn preceded him in death on May 2, 2018. Jack had served the Hesperia Fire Department as a firefighter for 56 years. During his time with the Hesperia Fire Department, he served as fire investigator for 17 years and served as the Chief for over 30 years until his retirement. He had also served as the President of the Hesperia Area Chamber of Commerce. Jack enjoyed spending time on the Two Hearted River near Newberry; fishing, hunting, traveling and riding motorcycles.
Jack is survived by his children, Patty (Ben) Bolser of Atlanta, Michigan; Kathy (Archie) Reno of Hessel, Michigan; Jacki Burrell of Petoskey; Mike Burrell of Hesperia; Mark (Cindy) Burrell of Hesperia; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Burrell; half sister, Judy Smith of Fremont; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his sister, Sandra Arrasmith; his brothers, Chuck Burrell and Richard "Dick" Burrell; and his stepsons, Tom Clark, Gary Clark and Joel Clark.
VISITATION : Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 11am - 12pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 with FUNERAL SERVICES & MILITARY HONORS at 12pm under the auspices of the Hesperia American Legion and United States Air Force Honor Guard. INTERMENT : West Hesperia Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Hesperia American Legion or Hesperia Fire Department Education Fund.
