Obituary

Jack C. Griffin, age 97, of Fremont passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2003 , at home. Jack was a full Texan born on February 4, 1905 , in Stamford , a small town in West Texas , to Thomas and Olin (Carnohan) Griffin . His grammar school years were spent in Cleburne high school in Dallas , then off to Rice University in Houston , where he received a bachelors degree in marketing in 1926. He worked for Anderson Clayton & Co. his first years out of college, then moved north to LaGrange , Illinois where he managed the Credit Bureau for four years before his promotion to the National Retail Credit Association's Southwestern District in Atlanta Georgia. Returning to Chicago he entered an evening course at Northwestern University which lead Jack to marketing research, his field from then on. He worked for several Chicago firms before joining Gerber Products Company in 1949. At a Gerber sales meeting conference in Miami in 1959, Jack met Ruth Hengaertner, a Swiss hostess at the conference banquet. They were married 30 days later on December 29, 1959 , in Bal Harbor , Florida . Ruthie introduced him to skiing and he responded with golf and bowling. Jack lived 97 happy years, leaving his loving wife, Ruthie, of Fremont , two daughters by his first marriage, Gay Riseborough of Evanston , Illinois , and Wendy Griffin of Long Beach , California , and two grandchildren, Mark Riseborough and Amy Riseborough. One granddaughter, Tauka Lozano, preceded him in death. Memorial Services in honor of Jacks life were held on Sunday, January 5, 2003 , at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Fremont with Rev. Ray Dekker officiating. Memorials in his memory can be made to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Fremont Area District Library.
