Obituary

Jack Duane Millard Sr., age 84 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Alter Care Nursing Center in Big Rapids. Jack was born on August 28, 1936 in Newaygo to Ray and Dorothy (Heffron) Millard and graduated from Newaygo High School in 1954. Jack married Donna Lee Osborn on August 30, 1958 in Croton and Donna preceded him in death on May 11, 2004. Jack joined the United States Army where he spent 22 years serving and fighting for his country including both during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He later became an Army recruiter working in Fremont, Novi, Michigan, Des Moines, Iowa and Muskegon. Jack and Donna along with their 3 children spent many years traveling abroad and in the United States while serving in the military including stays in Okinawa, Japan and Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he served his last detail and retired in 1976. Jack then became a school bus driver and "over the road" truck driver and eventually he and Donna managed several Newaygo County Parks until their final retirement and move to Tampa, Florida where they spent their last retirement years. Jack was a member of the Newaygo VFW Sportsman's Post #4249 and was a member of the American Legion in Tampa, Florida. Jack enjoyed all types of sports, had a passion for music and singing karaoke, and enjoyed watching the older westerns on television. Jack is survived by his children, Jack Millard Jr. of Newaygo; Brenda Millard of Big Rapids; Judy (Kurt Schornagel) Buttleman of White Cloud; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; his brother, Robert Millard; 7 nieces. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Donna in 2004; his son-in-law, James Buttleman in 1989; his sister, Karen Marie Towne in 2014 and 2 nephews.
