Obituary

Jack Lindy Miller, age 96 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont. Jack was born on July 27, 1927 in Grant Township, Oceana County to Henry and Mable (Gilmore) Miller. He graduated from Hesperia High School. Jack joined the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II until his honorable discharge. Jack met and later married Joyce (Oliver) Maynard on July 27, 1985. Jack was a production worker at Gerber Products Company in Fremont for many years until his retirement and had been a longtime resident of the Fremont and Hesperia areas. Jack earned his Private Pilot's License and owned and operated his own plane for several years. He enjoyed flying immensely. Jack was an avid bowler and bowled on several leagues in Muskegon and Fremont for over thirty years. He was in, won, or placed in many West Michigan and Amateur Bowling tournaments. He enjoyed the Michigan outdoors – hunting, fishing or working on his wooded property. Jack loved his blended family. He bragged about their accomplishments and shared in their sorrows. He had a quick wit, a sharp mind, and loved to share his life experiences with anyone who would listen. Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joyce of Fremont; his children, Gaye June; Linda Potter, Todd Miller; stepchildren, Belinda Westveld; Bill (Deb) Maynard; Dan (Kim) Maynard; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his son, Kent Miller; his grandson Chadd Miller; his first wife, Cleo Miller; his stepdaughter, Sandra Baum; his sisters and brothers, Evelyn Millard, Vilas "Red" Miller; Henry Miller; and Dallis Miller. He leaves behind his special nephew Nic Miller, his best friend and neighbor Bill (Sue) Caulkins and a lot of good friends- you know who you are. His pets Ruby and Zombie kept him active and miss him very much. Following Jack's wishes, his body "went to college" as a donation to the University of Michigan Medical School for research and teaching purposes. A memorial service will be held on November 10, 2023 at Crandell Funeral Home. Visitation is 1-2PM. Service is at 2PM.
