James W. Annis, age 85 of Fremont and Hesperia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Jim was born on June 26, 1933 in Puyallup, Washington to Phillip and Illa (Handy) Annis and moved at a young age to the Hesperia area. Jim joined the United States Air Force at an early age and served during the Korean War. James later married Barbara Spaulding on February 28, 1959 at the Hesperia United Methodist Church. Jim had worked as a driver/salesman for Amoco Oil for 26 years and later retired from Busch Oil in Fremont in 1995. Jim was a charter member of the Hesperia American Legion where he had been instrumental in building the baseball field, was chairperson of Bingo and held various offices within the Legion. Jim was also a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and former member of the Hesperia United Methodist Church where he had been active in various construction projects and committees at the church. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, camping, Michigan outdoors, and was an avid reader. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara of Fremont; his children, Lenore (Dale) Bacon of Fremont; Joseph (Michelle) Annis of Hesperia; Denise (Jer) Cyr of Muskegon; Thomas (Tammy) Annis of Wyoming; his grandchildren, James (Emmy) Bacon; Trevor Bacon; Jared Bacon; Erika (Anthony) Thompson; Katie (Brent) Annis; Zachary Annis; Lee (Jenn) Stock; McKenzie (Tom) McKeon; Sydonie Stock; Megan Annis; Scott Annis; 11 great grandchildren; his brothers, Michael (Beverly) Annis of Muskegon; Phillip Jack (Marilyn) Annis of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, William, John, Thomas, and Betty Baker.
