James "Jim" Arthur Johnson, age 74 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home following a decline in his health.  Jim was born on November 18, 1949 in Muskegon to John Lewis and Beverly (Corning) Johnson and has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia area.  Jim met and later married Elizabeth "Liz" Anne Anderson on July 21, 2001 in Hesperia.  Jim had worked at the Raymond Funeral Home in Hesperia for 31 years until his retirement and also served as a Oceana County Reserve Police Officer for many years and had been a school bus driver for the Hesperia Public Schools for over 20 years.  Jim was a member of the Oceana County Sheriff's Posse, served as the Township Supervisor for Greenwood Township; had served as an EMT in Hesperia for many years; had been a volunteer with the American Red Cross; and served on the Oceana County Parks and Recreation Board for several years and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. Jim was also a active member of the Hesperia Arcana Masonic Lodge #346 where he had served in various positions in the lodge.

Jim is survived by his mother, Beverly Johnson of Grand Haven; his brother, William "Bill" (Barbara) Johnson of Muskegon; his daughter, Charlotte Johnson of Hesperia; his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson of Hesperia; stepson, Michael (Sondra) Conley of Hesperia; stepdaughter, Danielle (Michael) Swenor of Muskegon; 4 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 6 nieces and nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by his son, Eric Johnson on August 31, 1997; his father, John Johnson; his sisters, Betty Johnson, Nancy Johnson and June Painter.
