Carlson, James E. James E. Carlson, age 72 of White Cloud, passed away Monday, January 14, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness. James was born on May 5, 1931 in Doylestown , Pennsylvania to David E. and Esther Marion (Matthews) Carlson and married Sara D. Duckworth on February 16, 1952 in Doylestown , Pennsylvania . James moved to the area in 1979 from Benton Harbor . He had worked for the Bell Telephone Company where he was a installer, PBX repair technician, and taught drivers safety. He had worked 17 years without a missed day of work until his retirement in 1980 after 30 years of total service. He was a member of the Hesperia Arcana F&AM Lodge 346 where he was past master; had been an explorer scout leader; was instrumental in establishing the Chalfont Sporting Association in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania; owned and operated a Christmas Tree Farm at his home for several years; was an avid history buff; enjoyed camping and passed this love of camping onto his daughters; he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and making maple syrup at his home. Although he was born into poverty, he accomplished much in his lifetime and was a true American patriot. He served in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Naval Reserve where he had been chief Aviation Machinist Mate. He had thousands of air miles as a flight engineer on the P2V airplane during the Vietnam and Cold War Era. He is survived by his wife, Sara of White Cloud; his daughters, Sara Carlson of Benton Harbor; Gloria & Steve Lachman of Baroda, Michigan; Nancy Peterson of Fremont; his grandchildren, Daryl & Aubree Lachman; Christopher& Amanda Peterson, Jennifer, Steven Peterson; his sister, Molly Sylsberry of New Bern, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Carlson and sister, Dorothy Price. Private family services were held at a later time following cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to Continued Care of Gerber Hospital for Patient Respite Care or Pulmonary Care Patient Respite Care.
