James V. Hansen, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at his home. Jim was born on July 25, 1927 in Rodney, Michigan to Frank and Inez H. (Noud) Hansen. Jim joined the United States Navy at an early age and after his military service, met and married Laura Perkins on July 2, 1960 in Fremont. Jim has been a longtime resident of the Fremont area where he had been a farmer, worked at Continental Motors in Muskegon for 20 years and retired from the SD Warren Paper Company in 1990 after 18 years. Jim was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and the Holton American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden, cutting wood and generally being in the Michigan outdoors. Jim was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings fan. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura of Fremont; his children, Valerie (Steven) Weimer of Walnut Creek, California; Terry Brenner of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; Wade Hansen of Fremont; his grandchildren, Ged, Sophie, and Gabe Weimer; Erin, Jane and Lily Brenner; his brother, Frank (Marie) Hansen of Fremont; his sisters, Elaine Tinney of Grand Rapids; Marilyn (Howard) Swanson of North Muskegon; many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jon Brenner; sisters, Claudia Fox, Geraldine Wolford; Carol Strang; his brothers, Jack Hansen and infant John V. Hansen. VISITATION : Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 3-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 11am at the Fremont United Methodist Church where military rites will be given. INTERMENT : Clark Cemetery.
