Obituary

James "Jim" Harold Smith Sr., age 80, of Whitehall passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. Jim was born on February 29, 1940, in Fremont to Frank H. and Edith Leone (Horton) Smith and married Judith Lynn Drum on November 26, 1960, at the Fremont United Methodist Church. Jim had worked as a Human Resources Supervisor for Sealed Power Corporation in Muskegon for over 30 years prior to his retirement. Jim proudly served in the United States Army, was a member of the American Legion, and a Detroit Tigers fan. Jim enjoyed woodworking and fishing, and was generous with his talents, volunteering at his Church, the Red Cross, and American Legion activities. Jim was a member of the White Lake United Methodist Church and most importantly loved spending time with his family. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith; children, Stacey (Larry) McCleary of Twin Lake and Scott (Dar) Smith of Roscommon; grandchildren, Brett, Nichole, Judith, Logan, Megan, Kacey, and Trevor; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Janice) Smith of Twin Lake, William (Kaye) Smith of West Olive, Jack (Penny) Smith of Montague, Larry (Terri) Smith of Fremont, and Steve (Pam) Smith of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded by his son, James H. Smith Jr. in 2007. A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at 2 PM, on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the Holton American Legion.
