James "Jim " Gifford Vannier, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, just three days after celebrating his 80th birthday.

Jim was born on September 10, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to Gifford and Helen Vannier. He attended Brother Rice High School before continuing his education at Michigan State University. It was at Michigan State that Jim met the love of his life, Prudy. Their love grew into a lifelong partnership, and the two were married, beginning an extraordinary life together.

Shortly after their marriage, Jim and Prudy began their life as a military family at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, where Jim proudly served as a captain in the United States Air Force in missile launch control. Their journey then took them to Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, where they welcomed their first two sons, Ryan and Christian.

Eventually, Jim and Prudy returned home to Michigan, where Jim began a long and successful career in the automotive industry, working for Ford for many years. Back in Michigan, their family continued to grow with the arrival of their daughters, Jaime and Kate.

While Jim accomplished much throughout his life, his greatest dream was always to be a father and grandfather. He adored his children and took immense pride in the people they became. But perhaps nothing brought him more joy than his seven grandchildren. Jim was their biggest supporter, making sure to be there for every school event, sporting event, milestone, and special moment he could possibly attend. He never wanted to miss a thing.

He was the kind of grandfather who showed up—not just in the big moments, but again and again, simply because being there for his grandchildren mattered to him. His love, encouragement, and unwavering presence will remain a treasured part of their lives.

Jim’s greatest legacy is the family he loved so deeply. His devotion to Prudy, his children, and his grandchildren was at the heart of everything he did. The memories he created with them will continue to live on in the stories they share, the traditions they carry forward, and the love he gave so freely.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved wife, Prudy; his children, Ryan, Christian (Jean), Jaime (Dan) and Kate; his seven grandchildren, Grace, Jimmy, Callen, Ronnie, Elaina, Claudia, and Loen; and all of the family and friends whose lives he touched.

Jim lived a life defined by love, family, service, and devotion. Above all else, he was a husband, a dad, and a grandfather—and those were the roles he cherished most.

In accordance with Jim's wishes a private family service will be held on October 2.
