Obituary

James Jim Victor Johnson, age 87 of Fremont, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 3, 2015. Jim was born on September 17, 1927 in Oak Park, Illinois to Victor and Phyllis (Thompsen) Johnson and moved to the Hesperia area at an early age. Jim graduated from Hesperia High School in 1945 and joined the United States Navy where he served during World War II. After his return from the service, Jim married Leona Tanis on July 1, 1949 in Fremont. Jim worked at Gerber Products Company and Dri Slide and later Jim and Lee started the VAY Manufacturing Company in Fremont on October 1, 1978 and continued until their retirement and closing on September 30, 2009. Jim has been a longtime member of the Fremont Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Fremont where he had been active and had served as an Elder and was currently Elder and Treasure Emeritus, Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir and composed his own solos. Jim also enjoyed woodworking, stamp collecting, golfing, archery, bowling, fishing, outdoor activities and gardening. Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leona Lee of Fremont; his daughters, Shirley (Jeff) Smith of Fremont; Sandy (Mark) Pearce of Fremont; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Melissa (Brad) Hoekert and their children, Hannah Rain, Nora Leland, Dawson James; Jennifer Jo (Mike) Burkart and their children, Thatcher Augustus, Wyatt Sebastian, Arlo Francis; Nate (Diane) Smith and their children, Lilley, Tyler, Aubrey, Zachary, Madelyn; Justin Smith; Jennifer Lynn (David) Clouse and their children, Quinn Kiana, Alexander Jeffrey; Nicole Pearce; Daniel Pearce; his brother, Chuck (Regan) Johnson; several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Phyllis Johnson and his brother, Warren (Sue) Johnson. VISITATION : Friday, May 8, 2015 from 10 -12pm at the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ 10 E. Elm Street Fremont with funeral services at 12pm at the church and Military Rites following at the church. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Christian Church Memorial Fund.
