James "Jim/Jimmy" L. Johnson, age 90 of Grant, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2021 at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon following a short illness. Jim was born on February 8, 1931 in Muskegon to LeRoy "Roy" Kenneth and Fern L. (Miller) Johnson and graduated from Fremont High School in 1950. Jim met and later married Donna B. Jordan on June 26, 1954 in Grant and has been a resident of the area since 1945. Jim had worked at Deur Chevrolet Motors in Fremont for over 30 years as an auto body technician until his retirement on January 1, 1992. Jim enjoyed gardening, doing yardwork, traveling to Florida for the winter months, golfing, hunting and fishing. Jim also enjoyed building and remodeling and built 3 different homes and remodeled another 3 homes. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard until his honorable discharge on March 31, 1970 and was a member of the American Legion Post 185 in Muskegon. Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna of Grant; his children, John J. (Lynnette) Johnson of Whitehall; Kathy L. (Mark) Monroe of Brighton; his grandchildren, Eric (Carrie) Johnson; Evan (Alessandra) Johnson; Laura Johnson; Makayla (Shae) Spencer; Christopher Monroe; his great grandchildren, Connor, Caden, one great grandchild due in January. Jim was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Marilyn Gierke, Linda Hart, and Clarence Johnson. CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsman's Post #4249, 45 Gene Furgason Lane Newaygo MI 49337 with MILITARY HONORS given at 2:00 p.m. at the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsman's Post. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Newaygo V.F.W.
