IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jim"
Manfred Helgemo
July 10, 1942 – December 24, 2025
Gone from our sight, but never to be forgotten, Jim Helgemo, 83, of Fremont, Michigan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at The Cottages at Martin Lake.
Jim was born on July 10, 1942, to Chester and Verle Helgemo. He graduated in 1961 from Dimondale High School and earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Central Michigan in 1965 and 1966. He taught and coached at White Cloud High School from 1966 to 1996. Teaching history was his passion and where lifetime friends remain, as do referee partners.
Leaving behind is his beloved wife of 60 years, Gloria, and their daughters, Jody Daniels, grandchildren, Holden and Sofia; and Jasey (Bob) Heft, and grandchildren, Grace and Ivy James. Jim is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kent Twitchell and his sister, Jill (Jim) Rose, and their daughter and son.
Jim's older brother Peter and wife Gail preceded him in death, and surviving are their two daughters.
Fishing was his passion and he taught fly-casting in Bozeman, Montana for many summers. Granddaughter, Grace, said her grandpa made her think of three things he cherished: faith, family, and fishing!
In faith, Jim was raised at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI. He and Gloria were married at Emmanuel First Lutheran Church in Lansing in 1965. Currently Jim worshipped at the Fremont Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and previously served in the Ramp Ministry and Friendship Ministry
Jim's cremation has taken place and his celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Fremont United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon at the church will follow.
A wise man once said "The life you live is your legacy." In lieu of donations, cherish your memories of Jim, they are lasting and lovable.
