James Edward Murphy, age 77 of Newaygo, passed away Monday, October 16, 2000 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Muskegon. He was born on June 16, 1923 in Glendale, California to George Henry and Emma (Schafer) Murphy and married Dorothy Laisure on July 10, 1982 in White Cloud. He has been a resident of Newaygo since 1983 and had been a Production Control Manager at the Sparton Engineered Products in White Cloud until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Murphy of Newaygo; his children, Diane C. (W.L.) McDermatt of Buffalo, Texas; Christine P. (Richard) Salo of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Michael S. (Dawn) Murphy of Muskegon; John P. (Barbara) Murphy of Spring, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Jack (Iola) Murphy of Racine, Wisconsin; a sister, Jeanne (Hub) Brown of Racine, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice (Orville) Fensen. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 21, 2000 from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in White Cloud with Pastor Foster Brummel presiding.
