James Richard Craig, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and cherished member of his entire family, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on April 27, 1951, in Ionia, Michigan, to Richard and Elizabeth Craig, Jim lived a life full of service, love, and craftsmanship.
Jim's life was marked by dedication and service. He joined the Michigan National Guard in 1969, serving faithfully until his retirement in 1991. His post-military career included various roles in construction, a field that he was passionate about. Jim was well-regarded for his craftsmanship and love for woodworking, hobbies which he continued to enjoy until just days before his death. Jim's faith was a fundamental part of his life. Jim's legacy of love, service, and hard work will continue to inspire all who knew him, and he will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate to be part of his life. His love for God and his family was evident in all that he did, and he was an active member of his church communities all of his life.
Jim was a dedicated husband to Mary, his loving wife of 53 years, and a devoted father to their three children: Matthew, who went to be with the Lord in 2013, Katherine (Brad), Andrew (Robin), and his beloved daughter-in-law Heather (Ryan) Kenyon. His life was further enriched by his grandchildren Kiersten, Allison (Logan), Caleb (Kristin), Austin (AJ), Elizabeth, Ellen, and James, and greatgrandsons Carter and Gabriel, who all brought immense joy to his life. He will be dearly missed by his mother,Elizabeth Craig, his siblings, Alan (Sue) Craig, Pam Berrington, and Patty (John) Austin, along with many other siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Richard Craig, his son, Matthew Craig, and brother-in-law Robert Berrington.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jim's life at services to be held on Wednesday, December 17, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Fellowship in Big Rapids. There will be a public visitation on Tuesday, December 16, from 4-7 p.m., also at Trinity Fellowship. Arrangements are being handled by Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud Chapel.
